14 Aug An Approach to Wellness In the past we did a session on Traditional Chinese Medicine; we have another version of that coming up next. We will be getting advice on health and wellness Chinese style in a session led by a public welfare organization in Shanghai called ‘Juzishu’. Any health awareness efforts based on Chinese medicine and philosophy will attach great importance to the concept of maintaining the harmony between your physical body and the mind, because an imbalance of the two leads to the onset of ailments. We will further learn about the importance of maintaining Zen spaces and useful relaxation techniques that we can use for ourselves at home. Invitations have gone out to our candidates taking Mandarin language programs in Shanghai, as well as those participating in the internship program in China. For discussion will be techniques to learn to control your mind better, how to have realistic goals and resolutions and what your mindset should be like in order to be able to get to the targets that you set for yourself. The Juzishu wellness organization will teach us about meditation methods, how beginners should approach it step by step and how to incorporate it easily into a person’s lifestyle. With the pressures that comes with intensive Mandarin study for example, or the stresses of life in a foreign country and the busy, noisy lives that modern people live. We are promised a session that will teach us how to slow down, we will learn about Chinese tea and get great recommendations about which types of teas we need to be drinking on a daily basis and which ones to avoid at certain times. The thing I am particularly eager to hear about is how to master listening to your own mind and body, with an overactive mind like mine, I sure need this!
