19 May Foreign Students Competition at Peking University This was one of a kind event held from May 9-12 at the Peking University grounds, whereby foreign students learning Chinese language were in competition with one another. Students were divided into four groups depending on their Chinese level. The opening ceremony was opened with a lively rendition of the Olympic classic “Beijing welcomes you – Beijing huan ying ni” These learners competed in Chinese poetry recitals, musicals, drama performances for the high level advanced international students. In much more upbeat categories, there were students who sang Chinese folk and pop songs, Chinese rap, hip hop and other guitar music selections. In other art forms, some performed a routine of kung fu martial arts, calligraphy, fairy tales and much more.
